What are blogs?
A blog is a discussion or informational website consisting
of posts, usually displayed in reverse chronological order. Visitors to the
blog can normally comment on these posts, and other comments. Blogs can either
be worked on a by a single author, or by multiple, with the later becoming
popular among media outlets and interest groups. Virtually any kind of
information can be found on a blog, not really limited to anything.
The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people
would keep a running account of their personal lives. http://www.links.net/vita/ is generally
recognized as the first blog, created by Justin Hall while he was attending
Swarthmore College in 1994. In 1999, the term “Weblog” was shortened to blog by
a programmer named Peter Merholz; a year later being declared Webster’s word of
the year.
Three popular blogs are http://failblog.cheezburger.com/ , http://kotaku.com/ , and http://techcrunch.com/
